February is American Heart Month, and with recently published research indicating blood pressure control has worsened in both men an woman since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, it’s important to use this month to get a blood pressure screening and focus on becoming heart healthy. Below are tips for the whole family to become heart healthy this February.

Congratulations to the Seals Swimmers for qualifying to attend the ISCA Showcase this summer. This was our first time attending the long course meet in St. Petersburg, Florida. It was a great experience for all. Here’s a summary: 12 swimmers, 70 events, 55 best times, 4 top ten finishers, 13 medals, 12 exhausted swimmers and families, met one new Olympic swimmer and walked away with 3 extremely proud coaches!
The Connecticut Lions Club is partnering with the Meriden-New Britain-Berlin YMCA to offer a special summer camp at Mountain Mist. This one week camp gives children with Type 1 diabetes the opportunity to have a fun outdoor experience while under the care of registered nurses who specialize in the care of pediatric diabetes.
Safe confident swimmers start at the Y. Sign up now and learn to swim. Registration for the next swim lesson session opens July 22, 2021 at 8:00 a.m.
The New Britain School district has decided to call full remote days for Tuesday June 8th and Wednesday June 9th due to the extreme heat. As a result we are offering anyone currently registered for our AM, PM, or Combo Care programs to attend one of the following locations (see below) in order for their child to be able to do their remote learning.

The Meriden-New Britain-Berlin YMCA Announces New YMCA COVID Policies based on the latest State of Connecticut Guidelines
This year not only are we going to livestream the service on the Meriden YMCA Facebook page, we can also welcome you in person! Up to 200 people may attend. Masks and social distancing are required. Gates open at 6:00 a.m. and sunrise is at 6:29 a.m.

Summertime marks the highlight of every child’s year. It’s a time to play outside, spend time with friends, and for many, head to summer camp for adventure and activities. The Meriden-New Britain-Berlin YMCA is eager and ready to help your child safely take a break from screen time, indoor activities and distance learning to experience the benefits of summer camp: outdoor fun and exercise, making friends, and social-emotional learning with peers.
The Meriden-New Britain-Berlin YMCA is assisting the OEC in reaching local families who did not enroll in public preschool, private programs or licensed family child care homes this year and are missing out on critical early learning experiences. Free educational resources are available to help these families.
