NEW BRITAIN – The Y will be expanding its technology offerings thanks to a recent grant award.

Cox Communications recently presented the New Britain-Berlin-Meriden YMCA with a $10,000 Tech Boost to help the organization invest in new technology equipment and services to help fulfill its mission..

“I am thrilled to announce that the Meriden-New Britain-Berlin YMCA will receive a $10,000 Tech Boost from Cox Communications,” State Rep. Cathy Abercrombie said. “This support from Cox will enable an already impactful organization to create more reasons for local youth to count the YMCA among their favorite places to spend time after school, and to build STEAM programming that will serve them in the present day and in their future careers.”

Y staff said the grant will be utilized to purchase 3-D printers, Chromebooks and iPads to support Family STEAM Nights and youth-based learning programs.

Cox Communications’ Tech Boost program is now in its fifth year. The company awards funding to non-profit organizations in need of modern tools to further their mission.

“The Cox Communications Tech Boosts program is excited to recognize another crop of deserving nonprofit institutions that have committed themselves to developing outstanding STEAM programming and driving deep community impacts,” Cox Senior Vice President and Region Manager Ross Nelson said. “With the need for strong engagement among youth populations more important than ever, we can’t wait to see how this year’s recipients will create lasting change in the communities they serve.”

Last year’s Connecticut recipient was the Enfield Food Shelf.

Nonprofits that apply for the grant must demonstrate how funding will be used to positively impact one of the following: the environment and conservation, health, early childhood education or empowering families and individuals for success.
