Youth of Today. Leaders of Tomorrow.
Youth and Government™ is a national program of the Y that involves thousands of teens nationwide in state-organized, model-government programs. Students from every corner of the U.S. have the opportunity to immerse themselves in experiential civic engagement and to, quite literally, practice democracy.
Connecticut YMCA Youth and Government offers both middle school (grades 6-8) and high school (grades 9-12) model state government assemblies to students and schools across the state. These annual assemblies allow students to represent their schools and communities in a variety of roles across the different branches and components of state government. Students are offered the opportunity to learn about a wide variety of issues, develop critical thinking skills, and articulate their beliefs while engaging constructively with their peers from around Connecticut.
The program culminates with teens serving as delegates at their state conference, debating bills on the floor of the legislature.
