NEW BRITAIN – For families that can’t afford to send their kids to summer camp and swim lessons, the Y is there.

The New Britain-Berlin-Meriden YMCA provides these programs free-of-charge to those in need, a feat that would be impossible if not for some serious fundraising.

That’s where the Y’s annual golf tournament comes in.

The New Britain-Berlin-Meriden YMCA and New Britain-Berlin Rotary Club’s 2022 Golf Tournament is set to take place at the Wallingford Country Club, 195 Long Hill Rd., on Monday August 22. This is the Y’s first year partnering with New Britain Rotarians for the event.

“They are a fantastic group doing great things in the community and I think it’s going to be a great fit for the Y,” Branch Executive Director Marci Moskal said. “We are very excited to work with the Rotary Club of New Britain. We’re all trying to provide programming for those in need in our community.”

The tournament schedule is as follows: 10 a.m. registration, 10:30-11:30 a.m. putting contest, 11 a.m. lunch, 12 noon shotgun start, 5 p.m. dinner.

Golfers will receive a complimentary beer during play and a gift. Awards will be presented for the longest drive, hole in one, and closest to the pin. There will also be an auction and raffle.

Proceeds will support services and programs that the Y and the Rotary Club provide for children, families, adults and seniors throughout the community.

“We do not turn anyone away for inability to pay, so this provides children and families services they normally wouldn’t be able to get,” Moskal explained. “Whether it’s summer camp, swim lessons or youth sports we’re just providing a service they normally wouldn’t be able to receive. There’s just such a demand for services. We’re doing our part to make sure every kid is getting what they need in the community.”
