The New Britain YMCA is proud to announce the opening of its newly expanded child care classrooms in January. The New Britain YMCA’s child care programs provide high-quality early learning for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers. With the opening of the new classrooms, the Y will increase accessibility to affordable early childhood education, helping more families thrive.
A ribbon cutting ceremony will take place on Friday January 16, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. at the New Britain YMCA, located at 50 High Street, New Britain, CT. Community leaders, families, and partners will join YMCA staff and board members to celebrate this important addition to the Y’s early childhood education programs and tour the classrooms.
“We are thrilled to open these beautiful new classrooms to our families,” said John Benigni, CEO, Meriden-New Britain-Berlin YMCA. “This expansion allows us to welcome 71 more children into a program that prepares them for school success while providing dependable support for working parents.”
"Our goal is to assist children in developing their social, emotional, cognitive, and physical skills while preparing for a sound educational future and success in school. The New Britain-Berlin YMCA creates a safe, nurturing environment for families and children to grow together," said Tina Valentin, Director Child Care Operations
As an Early Start site, the program offers a nurturing learning environment with qualified teachers. Care4Kids is accepted. The program follows the Creative Curriculum and uses the TeachingStrategies® tadpoles® app to keep families connected to their child’s daily activities. Infant formula, breakfast, lunch, and snacks are included. Families receive a New Britain YMCA household membership while enrolled.
The Meriden-New Britain-Berlin YMCA is one of the largest area child care providers. We care for over 1600 infants, toddlers, preschoolers and school age children.
