The Meriden-New Britain-Berlin YMCA is committed to providing a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone who enters our doors. There are growing concerns about the potential spread of coronavirus, and in an effort to keep you and your family healthy and prevent the spread of germs, we are sharing some important information.
New Britain-Berlin YMCA celebrates health center renovations
The New Britain-Berlin YMCA hosted the grand opening of the Don Davis Men’s Health Center Monday to unveil the renovations and upgrades done to the original center.
Meriden-New Britain-Berlin YMCA Thanks Veterans and Military Families
The Meriden-New Britain-Berlin YMCA thanks veterans, active duty military personnel, reservists and their families for their dedication, sacrifice and service.
From November 11th through November 30, 2019 local veterans, active duty military personnel, reservists and their families who are not currently Y members will have complimentary access to the Meriden and New Britain YMCAs to work out and spend family time together.
New Britain Fire Department Shares Fire Safety Tips for Seniors
Fire Chief Raul Ortiz, Lt. Eddie Irizarry and Marco Costa shared fire safety tips on smoke alarms, cooking, home heatling and more at our senior lunch and learn event.
YMCA and Hospital for Special Care Collaborate on Child Care for Employees and Community
The Meriden-New Britain-Berlin YMCA and Hospital for Special Care have announced a new approach to providing child care on the hospital’s campus. The hospital’s Early Learning Center, located at 2150 Corbin Avenue, has become the New Britain YMCA Little Scholars Child Care.
Playground dedicated to beloved YMCA official Ken Griffen
The New Britain YMCA hosted a dedication ceremony of its pre-school playground Thursday, in Memory of Ken Griffen, vice president and a strong presence at the Y, who passed away.
“He was an active leader in the Y, Rotary Club, St. Mark’s Church and many other community organizations. There is no doubt that Ken’s devotion to the Y led to new and better facilities and services to children and families of our community,” said Marci Moskal, branch director at the New Britain YMCA. “I know that Ken would be very proud of this playground and we are thrilled to be able to name this area in his memory.”
Healthy Eating Tips for Seniors
Rachel Driscoll, Registered Dietitian from Bristol Hospital, shared healthy living tips for seniors at our Lunch and Learn event today.
New Britain's Friday Night Ballers program is more than just a game
Friday Night Ballers, a recreational basketball program for students in the seventh, eighth and ninth grades, wrapped up its first 19 week session with an awards ceremony on Friday.
Families of students in the program joined them for an awards ceremony where students were presented a medal and invited to stay for a pizza social.
The program served approximately 80 students predominately from Slade, Pulaski, and DiLoreto Middle Schools. Students received basketball training and benefited from hearing from motivational speakers who encouraged positive relationships, building camaraderie, self-awareness and self-pride, according to a release from the school district.
New Britain-Berlin YMCA Camp Thundermoon returns for a fun summer
The New Britain – Berlin YMCA Camp Thundermoon is sure to offer a summer of memories that will last a lifetime. YMCA Camp Thundermoon, which has been around for 34 years in the Berlin community, is coming back this summer. Camp Thundermoon is offered for nine weeks starting on June 24 and ending on Aug. 23. Camp is held at Willard Elementary School in Berlin.The camp will incorporate sports and arts camps with specialized activities throughout the day.
YMCA: Helping hands for healthier communities
NEW BRITAIN - While the Village People’s popular tune ignites dancing, the acronym “YMCA” represents much more than just a song.
The organization more closely symbolizes a lighthouse at the center of our community, a welcoming beacon for everyone. The Y is made up of people of all ages and from every walk of life, working side by side to strengthen communities.
The YMCA is a collaboration of volunteers and neighbors, working towards a greater purpose. CEO John Benigni calls it “a place where families spend quality time together and build relationships that deepen our sense of belonging.”
A nonprofit entity whose success came about by benevolence and neighborhood hardship makes its goal to be socially responsible in a meaningful way. This is why Benigni is so hopeful that the Y’s preschool and daycare programs, Camp Thundermoon, and an October fundraiser will continue to inspire its mission.
Comcast helps New Britain-Berlin YMCA with some spring cleaning
Over 100 volunteers, consisting of Comcast employees, their families and friends, YMCA members and helpers from the United Way of Northeastern and Central Connecticut, gathered at the New Britain-Berlin YMCA Saturday.
