New Britain – Berlin YMCA

Message from the Meriden-New Britain-Berlin YMCA

To our community:

Last week we shared a letter from Kevin Washington, President and CEO of YMCA of the USA.

For those who did not have a chance to read it, we hope you will.

Hurt But Hopeful: My Perspective On What's Happening In Our Country by Kevin Washington

We agree with what Kevin says. We condemn racism and bigotry in all forms. We are horrified, angry and sad about George Floyd and so many others.

In the coming weeks and months, we will share actions we are taking, including more training for our staff.

The Y has always been a place where everyone is welcome. We have always stood for hope and community.

As Kevin says:

"This is a time of great anguish and despair in our country, particularly for people of color and the most vulnerable among us. We cannot let all this suffering be in vain. It must drive us toward a better tomorrow.

I know the Y has the credibility and capacity to lead. We must be guided by the light of our organizational commitment to inclusion and our focus on young people. We must go forward with a fire in our souls and hope in our hearts. We must work together to create the future we all want and deserve."

We stand with our community, staff, members and friends to fight racism. Black lives matter.
