New Britain – Berlin YMCA

March 13 COVID-19 Update

March 13, 2020 COVID-19 Update

To our Members, Child Care Families and Guests:

The Meriden-New Britain-Berlin YMCA is committed to providing a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone who enters our doors.

Here is our updated action plan:

  • We are following guidelines from our local Health Department, the State of Connecticut and the CDC.
  • Our Y branches are open in Meriden, New Britain and Berlin, and CrossFit Meriden is open for our members. We are doing extra cleaning of high touch areas.
  • Youth programs are postponed through March 29th.
  • Group exercise classes at the Y (land and water) are suspended through March 29th. Starting on Monday, we will be posting workouts at the Y and online for those who want to or need to work out at home.
  • We will also be posting drills and tips for our players to do at home to help keep their basketball skills sharp, and workouts for our gymnastics team to do at home.
  • We are continuing to explore child care options for school age care for Meriden, New Britain and Berlin families, and in Meriden for the Little Spartans, Little Panthers and Little Hounds preschools affected by the school closings. There is no Vacation Fun program for Monday March 16th. We will announce details as they become available.
  • All of our other child care centers are open.
  • We will continue to limit the number of people at the Y until further notice. The number of people allowed in the Meriden YMCA is 125 and in the New Britain YMCA are 125 (not including the residents.)
  • No guests will be allowed from other YMCAs or with members. No guests will be allowed to visit the New Britain YMCA Hart House residents. No volunteers will be at the Y for now.

How You Can Help

  • Take Care of Your Health. Continue to exercise, get plenty of sleep, manage stress, drink plenty of liquids, and eat nutritious food.
  • Wash your hands. Hand washing remains the most effective method of preventing the spread of germs, including coronavirus. Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after going to the bathroom, before eating, and after blowing your nose, coughing or sneezing. Or use hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol if soap and water is not available.
  • Stay home when you are not feeling well. Stay home when you or your little one(s) are sick until you’ve been free of fever for 24 hours.
  • Cover your cough or sneeze. Please cover your cough or sneeze with your elbow or a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces using a regular household cleaning spray or wipe.
  • Get the flu shot. If you have not already done so, get the flu shot. This helps prevent overloading of doctor’s offices and medical facilities.

This is a fluid situation. We will keep everyone updated with information as it develops. Additionally, we encourage you to regularly check the CDC’s website for important updates and safety information.
