| | HOW TO VOLUNTEER As a not-for-profit organization, the YMCA is dependent upon more than 600 committed volunteers. YMCA volunteers typically serve in one of following three areas: Governance Governance volunteers share their talents, experience and resources in the administration of our organization. These volunteers serve on a committee or board giving advice and counsel to staff. They are dedicated to the mission and purpose of the YMCA. Fundraising Fund raising volunteers at the YMCA typically help us raise money for our various charitable activities including Annual Support for Youth Development, World Service for the Y's international activities and Capital Campaign to improve and expand YMCA program facilities. Program The YMCA is always looking for individuals of high character willing to share their skills and enthusiasm in our many programs and services for children and adults. Volunteers whose responsibilities put them in contact with children will need to provide personal recommendations and pass background checks. Individuals interested in volunteering for the YMCA and working with children should contact our Youth & Family Services Director at 860-229-3787. How to Contribute The New Britain-Berlin YMCA is a human service organization and a non-profit organization. All contributions made to our organization are tax deductible in accordance with both state and federal statutes. Annual Support Campaign Contributions to the Y's Annual Support Campaign insure that no child is ever turned away from a YMCA program. Nearly 3,000 boys and girls participated in the Y's childcare, camping, swimming, youth and teen development programs during 2010. More than 800 of those children received financial assistance. World Service Campaign For nearly 50 years, the New Britain-Berlin YMCA has been an active supporter of YMCA development around the world. The New Britain Y currently has fraternal and supportive relationships with the YMCAs of Krakow, Poland, Cali, Colombia and Armenia. Leave a Legacy The endowed funds of the New Britain-Berlin YMCA support a wide variety of programming and other mission related needs of our organization. An endowment is a permanent legacy which insures that the many good works of our organization continue on in perpetuity. The YMCA maintains a permanent Heritage Society which recognizes individuals who contribute to the Y's permanent endowment through a will, insurance policy, annuity or outright gift.
